“Prophetic preaching is dangerous work, not only because it has a subversive edge but because it requires an epistemological break with the assumed world of dominant imagination. This epistemological break makes us aware of our assumptions we have not recognized or reflected upon.â€Â
― Walter Brueggemann, The Practice of Prophetic Imagination
How do the things we are learning about ecology, economy, cosmology and justice inform our worship planning and preaching?
Our facilitator will lay out some initial possibilities for working with themes. The morning will prime the pump with ideas for preaching themes and liturgical/ritual possibilities that will help us facilitate worship that is more integrated with the natural world and conscious of the current context to which our faith must speak in order to be both faithful and relevant.

Typical schedule for the Day
9:30 a.m. – 9:50a.m. – Welcome and Introductions in the St. Andrew Library
9:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Pastor Brandt offers themes and ideas for preaching for Easter, Year A, and offers opportunities for us to discuss and interact around those themes. We will take a break at some point in the morning.
12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Bring Your Own Sack Lunch so we can discuss our interests for the next gathering, choose the date, and identify the next facilitator we will invite. Alternatively, you are welcome to spend lunchtime on your own or with another walking around beautiful Commonwealth Lake across the street or around the St. Andrew wetlands and Sanctuary in the Firs.
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Work on your own or with others to further outline your preaching themes for the Easter season or prepare particular upcoming sermons. Additional break out rooms are available if you let us know in advance you would like one. Participants can also avail themselves of informal opportunities to get input and ideas from others on areas regarding preaching angles and worship practices you are exploring.
Cost – In order to compensate our presenters, we request $25 donation from those who are under congregational call or otherwise employed. If you are not employed or in a call or if you have a financial hardship, we invite you to simply offer what you can or contribute to this effort in some other way (bringing food, cleaning up, bringing supplemental resources to share, or whatever else you might desire to offer).
